Pilot operated Solenoid Valves is one kind of Electromagnetic devices which uses electric current to energize the coil which in turn causes the plunger to either open or close the valve. As soon as the electric current is removed, the plunger comes to its original position. The minimum pressure on the solenoid valve must be 0.5 bar for operation. Common design of solenoid valve contains two ports where as in some advanced designs, three ports are also used. The power consumption in pilot operated Solenoid Valves is much lower as compared to direct acting Solenoid Valves (Generally 0.1 – 0.2 W). Depending on the operation of plunger, Pilot operated solenoid valve is classified in to two types

  1. Normally Open: In Normally open type , the plunger is in open position where electric current is passed on coil to make it close.
  2. Normally Close: In Normally Close type, the plunger is in close position in unpressurized state where a electric current is passed on coil to make it open.
